Eligibility Criteria and Pathway to immigrate to Nova Scotia

The two main immigration routes into Nova Scotia are the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) and Express Entry.

Express Entry: This process uses a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to rank candidates based on a variety of criteria, including age, education, and language ability. Although having a work offer is not required, it can greatly improve your CRS score, boosting your likelihood of being invited to apply for permanent residency.

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP): Unlike Express Entry, the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) comprises of several immigration streams, each with its own requirements. Provinces and territories are given the authority to choose the economic immigrants they need. Through the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP), Nova Scotia provides several options, one of which is for those without a job offer.

Find how to immigrate to Nova Scotia without a Job Offer?

For people who want to relocate to Nova Scotia but don’t yet have a job offer, the province has established channels. One of these choices is the Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities stream. To qualify, you must:

  • Possess an up-to-date Express Entry profile number.
  • Indicate on your Express Entry profile that you intend to relocate to Nova Scotia.
  • Obtain an interest letter from Nova Scotia .
  • At the time you receive the Letter of Interest, you must meet the precise requirements (these requirements may change between invitation rounds).
  • Meet the work experience requirements for the appropriate Express Entry stream (Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program).
  • Submit supporting documentation to back up your employment history.
  • Show proof of your immigration status in the nation where you now reside.
  • Prove that you have the resources to sustain your family and yourself.

Applications for the NSNP

A step-by-step manual for completing the NSNP application can be found here:

  • Verify Eligibility: Verify that you satisfy all conditions for the Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities stream.
  • Create an Express Entry profile. There are many advantages to creating an Express Entry profile. It positions you to get an Invitation to apply directly from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada for federal programs if you fulfil the CRS requirements and enables Nova Scotia to consider you for its provincial stream.
  • Obtain a Letter of Interest: After entering the Express Entry pool, the Nova Scotia Office of Immigration (NSOI) may send you a Letter of Interest requesting you to submit an application for a provincial nomination.
  • Nomination Application: You have 60 days from the date you get the letter to send the province your nomination application.
  • Accept the Nomination: If your application is accepted, a nomination certificate will be sent to you and submitted to the Express Entry database. By accepting the nomination, you gain 600 more CRS points, effectively ensuring that you will be invited to apply for permanent residence in the upcoming Express Entry draw.
  • Application for Permanent residency: The nomination certificate is valid for six months, after which time you must apply to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for permanent residency.

Newcomers frequently choose Nova Scotia because of its warm towns and variety of employment options. By doing these actions, you can open the doors to your Canadian dream and travel to the stunning shores of Nova Scotia.
